Fossil Rim Wildlife Center is deeply saddened to share the news of the passing of Yola Carlough, a cherished member of our community whose dedication to conservation, sustainability, and social responsibility left an enduring impact on our organization.
Yola served on the Fossil Rim Board of Directors from 2020 to 2025, offering invaluable insight, leadership, and compassion throughout her tenure. Her connection to Fossil Rim began much earlier, when she served as our Director of Marketing & Public Relations from 1998 to 2001. During that time, she helped elevate our mission and expand awareness of the critical conservation work taking place across our 1,800 acres.
Beyond Fossil Rim, Yola’s career was defined by a profound commitment to creating positive environmental and societal change. Her work spanned influential roles at Ben & Jerry’s, Burt’s Bees, and B Lab, where she championed corporate responsibility, sustainability, and mission-driven business practices. She was widely respected for her ability to build meaningful partnerships, mentor organizations toward greater impact, and inspire others with her vision for a more inclusive, ethical, and sustainable world.
Earlier this year, Fossil Rim recently named our newest giraffe calf – born on April 13, 2025, to mother Nyla – after Yola. This tribute reflects the grace, strength, and spirit she brought to every endeavor and serves as a living reminder of her lasting connection to our mission.
We are grateful for Yola’s years of service, her thoughtful leadership, and her unwavering belief in the power of conservation and community. Her legacy will continue to shape Fossil Rim for years to come.
Our thoughts are with Yola’s family, friends, and all who had the privilege of working alongside her.
