Explore Fossil Rim Wildlife Center’s education programming where we are Teaching What Affects Nature Globally . . . better known as Environmental Education with Texas T.W.A.N.G.
All education programming supports Fossil Rim’s mission by facilitating individuals discovering their role and fulfilling their responsibilities within the natural world.
Like everyone else, we are finding new ways to socially distance while still providing quality programming. To this end, we have created Distancing with Texas T.W.A.N.G. programs. All programs are designed with safety in mind whether at this facility or from your home on the range.
We have gussied up our usual Discovery After Dark program. Due to the coronavirus, we have decided to make this program private and exclusive to the group of people of your choosing on an evening of your choice.
Spend an evening exploring the nature of Texas with your kin (or whomever you are willing to claim). The Twilight T.W.A.N.G. program includes a drive into Fossil Rim’s pastures, nature hike, campfire, and plenty of surprises as your guide makes sure that it is as fun as all get-out.
We are allowing up to 12 people – any age but there must be at least one adult.
Fee: $50/person with a minimum rate of $250
Date: Flexible and by request
Time: 6:30-9 p.m.
Location: Fossil Rim Wildlife Center
T.W.A.N.G. [FR]om Home
Has all of this social distancing taken the T.W.A.N.G. out of your life? Revive your T.W.A.N.G. by “saddling up” and exploring Fossil Rim from home.
Fossil Rim’s new T.W.A.N.G. [FR]om Home program is a three-part, themed series that includes one hour of virtual educational programming per week along with T.W.A.N.G. Home Edition Challenges for “homework.” Don’t worry, you will still see the Fossil Rim that you love, even viewing areas not often accessed by groups – you will just be doing it virtually with our Education Department. As a bonus, this program is limited to 10 households per program so that we can also help you create a social network of like-minded nature lovers.
We are allowing up to 10 households per session – we prefer at least one adult attend per household. The sessions are split according to the ages of the minors attending. If the household has more than one age group, please choose the one that you think fits your family the best. You can have an unlimited number of participants per household, but we recommend smaller groups.
Date TBD/Program: Ahead of the Curve*
Session A: elementary school family
Session B: middle/high school family
Location: Zoom and a private Facebook group
[FR]om Home Program Description
Ahead Of The Curve
Before all of us were talking about flattening the curve, Fossil Rim was already Ahead Of The Curve. Quarantine and slowing the spread of disease has always been part of keeping the animals in our care healthy. Join us as we delve into the behind-the-scenes world at Fossil Rim and explore how we keep our animals safe and healthy while also looking at how animals ensure their own safety.
For the elementary sessions, the focus will be adaptations for survival, animal groups, and the safety of our animals.
For the middle/high school sessions, we will expand into animal behavioral changes caused by social distancing, as well as the science behind our care for the animals.
