Homeschool Programs

Fossil Rim Wildlife Center still has many different Homeschool Programs scheduled through March of 2020. These usually run from 10am-3pm:

Rhino Reality (September 16, 2019)
Time: 10:00 am-3:00 pm

Come observe these giants of the African savanna right here in Texas! Find out why a white rhino is poached approximately every eight hours and what Fossil Rim and others are doing for rhino conservation. We'll discuss their habits, habitats and ways we can be part of their restoration. To register, call 254.897.2960. $23 per person.

Mini-tours to the Rhinos (September 23, 2019)

A 50-minute tour will start on the hour at 9:00 am, 10:00 am, 11:00 am and noon. A Fossil Rim guide will take up to 12-15 people on each tour from the Front Gate to the white rhino enclosure in a tour vehicle to observe and discuss our “crash” (herd) of white rhino – which includes two calves! The event will cost $15 per person, but a group of 5 will only pay $60. To register, call 254.897.2960.

Fun Finding Fossils (October 29, 2019, March 24, 2020)
Time: 10:00 am-3:00 pm)

Fossil Rim used to be underwater! A lot of marine creatures left an abundance of interesting evidence that they used to live here. That evidence is found in our rocks. We’ll hike together to our Dig Site, find and identify fossils, and learn about them and how they got here. You can even take one (or maybe more) home! To register, call 254.897.2960. $23 per person.

Wolves: Friend or Foe? (November 11, 2019, January 20, 2020)
Time: 10:00 am-3:00 pm)

Class + Behind-the-Scenes Tour: The relationship between man and wolf has been a rocky one! We will learn about that relationship and the respective roles that each plays in a balanced environment. Fossil Rim has Mexican gray wolves, red wolves and maned wolves. Discover the habits and history of these amazing animals and enjoy the unique opportunity of viewing our resident wolves – possibly all three species! This event is for ages seven and up. To register, call 254.897.2960. $28 per person.

Cheetah and the Savanna Habitat (November 18, 2019, March 2, 2020)
Time: 10:00 am-3:00 pm

Cheetahs are a major focus at Fossil Rim. Learn the amazing ways this cat is designed for maximum speed and the challenges cheetahs face as the African savanna shrinks. Come look, learn and fall in love with our amazing cats! To register, call 254.897.2960. $23 per person.

Beautiful Biomes (February 10, 2020)
Time: 10:00 am-3:00 pm

At Fossil Rim, we love to celebrate the beautiful variety of biodiversity found on our planet! There are 4 essential ‘flavors’ of biodiversity, called biomes, and they are: deserts, forests, grasslands, and the aquatic biome. Join us to explore the features and species of each, and, as always, we will end by enjoying a full guided tour! To register, call 254.897.2960. $23 per person.

Amazing Africa! (February 25, 2020)
Time: 10:00 am-3:00 pm

Explore the geography and wildlife; peek in on the cultures; and consider the conservation issues of the homeland to most of our exotic species. Discover key players and the dynamic balance of the savanna ecosystem. To register, call 254.897.2960. $23 per person.

Giraffes (March 30, 2020)
Time: 10:00 am-3:00 pm

Join us for an encounter to remember, as we visit our “tower” (herd) of reticulated giraffe! In class we will continue to learn about these amazing gentle giants. We plan to visit the giraffe again after lunch as part of a full guided tour of Fossil Rim.
