Your wedding is supposed to be one of the best days of your life. Location, location, location – we have an idea!
What could make such a major life event even more memorable? Tying the knot and then feeding a giraffe, perhaps? A wedding at Fossil Rim Wildlife Center can be your reality.
In the spring, the landscape will be green and thriving with baby animals frolicking about. In the fall, the foliage will be turning beautiful colors of maroon, yellow and brown across the hilly terrain. If you are looking for a natural setting for your big day, Fossil Rim offers an atmosphere that just cannot be duplicated in the city.
When the time comes for you to delve into the details, give Lodge Manager Dawn Sorrells a call.
Time of year will dictate pricing. She will need to know how many guests you are planning on and if you would like to use The Lodge or the Foothills Safari Camp cabins for the overnight lodging of your wedding party. Will you need catering provided for a reception and/or a rehearsal dinner?
It will be essential to have a bad weather backup plan, because this is Texas after all. Sorrells can provide suggestions.
Because there are many choices to be made for ceremony settings at The Lodge or Safari Camp, it is highly recommended that the bride-to-be comes out and sees all of what Fossil Rim has to offer before making any major decisions.
Because open flames are not permitted at Fossil Rim, battery-operated candles are often utilized for indoor activity. Sorrells generally recommends a wedding take place in the early afternoon, which provides plenty of time to get perfect, picturesque photos as the sun is setting.
The animal element of a Fossil Rim wedding is an awesome, often unpredictable, factor.
For one wedding, our staff put food out at a nearby watering hole and animals stopped by to eat during the reception. One wedding party went on an abbreviated tour after the ceremony and took photos in their wedding attire with giraffes and zebras nearby. Another time at the Safari Camp, the resident sandhill crane walked back and forth nearby as vows were read.
Sorrells and her staff can also attend to any menu needs for a wedding. Whether the choice is barbeque, Italian, Mexican, or something else, they can prepare all or part of the menu. Outside caterers cannot use the Fossil Rim kitchen for insurance reasons, but sometimes families have brought in their own barbecued meats and our staff has provided the sides.
We primarily utilize a buffet style, as opposed to sit-down menu, to provide a more cost-effective method. Be it food or otherwise, Sorrells will try to iron out all the specifics with you at least a month in advance so that we can attempt to fulfill all requests.
