Whether it was games, pumpkin carving, a chemistry magic show, animal encounters, attempted piñata popping, or another fun activity, there was a lot going on at the 2019 Halloween Spooktacular Extravaganza! Donations from the evening and the bake sale fundraiser will go to improvements for the Children’s Animal Center (CAC).
“This year was the first Spooktacular for our planning committee among the centers at the Overlook, which includes the CAC staff, education department, and tours department,” said CAC Supervisor Kristina Borgstrom. “We think it was a good turnout despite numerous other activities that may have been going on that day, and we’re fortunate the weather was so nice during the event. Folks seemed to enjoy themselves and we saw lots of smiles. Visitors liked the new activities like s’mores roasting, the mad chemist magic show, the Fossil Rim-themed games with a conservation spin, and our costume parade where kids walked our ‘red carpet’ while making their favorite animal calls.
“We learned a lot this year and identified aspects that we can alter to make next year’s event even better. We like how guests used more of the Overlook space and families could take their time at each activity they wanted to participate in. We would like to send a big thank you to all of our staff, interns, and volunteers that helped us, both leading up to and during the event.
“Our bake sale fundraiser, which was held in the days leading up to and during the event, was the most successful one yet. The total funds raised reached $1,600! We would love to hear from guests what they thought about this year’s Spooktacular.”
