Enjoy the overnight experience at Fossil Rim

Here at Fossil Rim Wildlife Center, we offer overnight stays right next to all of our animals.

The Lodge and the Foothills Safari Camp cabins are just about the closest you can get to camping on a safari in Africa without traveling out of Texas. The Lodge itself was originally the house built by Tom Mantzel – the man who started this great wildlife park. It boasts five bedrooms: two on the first floor, two on the second floor and one on the third floor.

Wrapping around the second floor, there is a covered deck that allows guests to have an elevated view of the pastures that surround The Lodge and the creek that runs through the property.

The two on the first floor are named the Hummingbird and Egret rooms, and they each have two full-size beds, a closet, a dresser and a fireplace in them. They share a bathroom at the end of the hallway.

Each of these rooms has a spectacular deck that is easily accessible from sliding doors in each room. The deck overlooks the pasture in the front of the house, where you can see a variety of our animals in their natural habitat, such as herds of addax or sable antelope.

Although a hot breakfast buffet is served daily and included in the lodging price, Fossil Rim Executive Lodge Director Nick Itayem can prepare evening cuisine by advance request when a menu is offered on Friday and Saturday.

The common area located on the first floor is full of family-friendly amenities such as books, a pool table, board games and a few binders full of facts about Fossil Rim and the animals here. There is also a wet bar that has beautiful stained glass; this is where the adults can enjoy themselves and have a drink or two. Currently, The Lodge and Foothills Safari Camp are BYOB.

The second floor is where the Parrot and Attwater rooms are located, as well as the house kitchen and another common area for guests to relax and enjoy the view.

The Parrot room is a guest favorite. It is easily accessible with the driveway right outside the private patio area connected to the room. The Parrot room has a king-size bed, an armoire and a full bathroom with a state-of-the-art Jacuzzi tub.

On the second floor of The Lodge, the common room offers a fireplace, television, board games and a library full of informative books on a variety of topics.

The Attwater room is just down the hall from the Parrot. This room has king-size bed with an armoire and a full bath. The Attwater is also easily accessible with the driveway coming right up to the private patio, which boasts a great view of the pasture that surrounds the house.

On the third floor of The Lodge is our largest room, the Peregrine, which spans the entire floor.

On the third floor of the house is our largest room, the Peregrine, which spans the entire floor. The Peregrine sleeps the largest amount of people, as it has a king-size bed and a twin trundle bed. There is a dresser, as well as an armoire and a fireplace.

The bathroom is full-size with a closet, walk-in shower and double-size Jacuzzi tub. The Lodge is an excellent “home-away-from-home” experience with one of the most unique views in Texas.

Further into the park, there is the Foothills Safari Camp. This two-acre, fenced-in area hosts seven cabins, with two twin beds in each. Staying at Safari Camp allows you to take in one of the best views found in our wildlife park. Each cabin is equipped with its own bathroom, shower and vanity. There are two built-in twin beds with an option for a third to be put in between them.

With one of our main watering holes right in front of camp, it allows a spectacular view of our wildlife. There is a pavilion located at camp as well, with glass walls, so you can take in the nature and scenery with air conditioning.

With two acres to explore, Foothills Safari Camp is perfect for that family trip you’ve been thinking about. There are various outdoor games set up outside to spend time together.

Nick Itayem, executive lodge director, prides himself on preparing delicious cuisine for overnight guests.

During your stay at The Lodge or Foothills Safari Camp, access to a drive through the wildlife park, Wi-Fi, Dish Network television and a hot breakfast buffet served every morning are all included in the price. Dietary restrictions can be accommodated with 72 hours of notice, and our lodging staff is present to provide 24-hour service. By advance request when a menu is offered, evening cuisine can be prepared for guests on Friday and Saturday.

Our eight Wolf Ridge Nature Camp bunkhouses can accommodate up 14 people in each one. They each have a shower, toilet and sink.

We have one more lodging option, which is located near our education building behind the Overlook. Our eight Wolf Ridge Nature Camp bunkhouses can accommodate up 14 people in each one. They have heat and air conditioning and are the most affordable lodging we have. You just bring your own bedding and toiletries.

Fossil Rim is open 362 days per year, so it is always a good time to stay in the land of the Texas safari. For more information on all of our lodging, check out https://fossilrim.org/plan-a-visit/lodging/.

  • What accommodations are available for the single traveller? I’ve stayed at several different game parks when I lived in Africa, and would like to repeat the experience at Fossil Rim. But I travel solo, and am old enough that I’m not really excited about dormitory-style accommodations.

    • A Bunkhouse can accommodate up to 14 people. If the 4 children sleep on the floor, the Peregrine Room in The Lodge could potentially hold everyone. The Safari Cabins are recommended for 2 adults and a small child. All of the lodging is discussed further on this page: https://fossilrim.org/plan-a-visit/lodging/
