We only have a few special events set for August, so you might need to act fast to get in on the fun!

Summer Special: What Does The Doc Say?

Homeschool Class + Guided Tour: With our homeschool coordinator playing the role of doctor, he will ask the key questions: “Who’s the patient? What’s the diagnosis? What’s the treatment plan?” Join him for a sweeping survey of the biosphere that is Fossil Rim! This two-day event is recommended as a package, but it can also be enjoyed on either day as a standalone. $23 per person for each day. For questions, email homeschool@fossilrim.org. Please reserve at least three days in advance at (254) 897-2960.

Date: August 5, 2019, 10 a.m.-3 p.m.; August 6, 2019, 10 a.m.-3 p.m.

Photo Tour

The Photo Tour lets the photographer catch the dusk light, which is the best light possible for afternoon photos. The tours will go through Fossil Rim’s 1,800 acres of pastures. There are 50-plus species of animals at Fossil Rim. Some of the animals that may be photographed include white rhinos, blackbuck, European red deer, gemsbok, zebras, addax, waterbuck, giraffes, sable, axis deer and cheetahs, just to name a few. Reservations are required. Call (254) 897-2960. Camera Club members can receive a 10 percent discount. Private tours are also available for an additional fee. $65 per person.

Date: August 10, 2019, 4-8 p.m.

Discovery After Dark Program And Tour

Come enjoy the evening beauty of Fossil Rim. Watch the stars and listen to the nighttime sounds, as we venture out into the park at dark. We’ll start with an interactive learning experience where you can discover nocturnal animal adaptations. Then, using spotlights, we’ll go on a guided sunset tour focused on the nightlife of Fossil Rim. We’ll see Fossil Rim’s exotic animals and some native Texas species. We may see some animals that don’t usually come right up to vehicles during daytime Safari Tours! Afterwards, we’ll adventure on foot by taking a hike after dark. Participants will meet at the EcoCenter, located at Fossil Rim’s Overlook area. This activity, which will last approximately three hours, costs $35 per person and is limited to 16 participants.

Date: August 23, 2019, 6:30-9:30 p.m.

    1. Hello Sara, sorry I was out for vacation. This event is actually sold out; the next one with tickets available isn’t until Oct. 18. This is our most popular event nowadays. To book, you can call 254-897-2960 daily from 8AM-5PM.

        1. The event on October 18 is the Discovery After Dark Program and Tour – it’s not homeschool. This is the October homeschool event:
          Fossil Fun!
Homeschool Class/Dig + Tour: Fossil Rim used to be underwater! A lot of sea creatures left an abundance of interesting evidence that they used to live here. That evidence is found in our rocks and fossils. Find and identify fossils, understand them and how they got here. You can even take one or more home! To register, call 254.897.2960. $23 per person.
          Date: October 29, 2019, 10 a.m.-3 p.m.
