Check out these special events we have coming up!

Upcycling Workshop

This workshop will focus on jewelry – make and take a beautiful charm bracelet and a pendant crafted from materials you would normally throw away! You’ll need to bring 2-3 empty, clean soda cans – pick colors you like, and the more colorful the better; 1-2 tabs from a can of vegetables or soup (not the tab from a soda can); a favorite bead or button (this one is optional). Everything else will be provided. Meets at the EcoCenter. Maximum of 30 people. To register, call (254) 897-2960. $25 per person.

Date: February 2, 2019, 11 a.m.-12 p.m.

Fossil Discovery Hike & Tour

Are there any aspiring paleontologists (fossil hunters) in your family? Have you ever wondered why we’re called Fossil Rim Wildlife Center? After a brief introduction to fossils so that you will know what you’re looking for, we’ll take a hike to one of our fossil pits! You’ll be able to keep at least a couple of the fossils you find. The day includes a 90-minute guided tour of the park. Ages 5 and up are welcome for this activity, which meets at the EcoCenter. Reservations are required and please make at least three days in advance. For more information, email info@fossilrim.org. To register, call (254) 897-2960. $35 per person.

Date: February 9, 2019, 9 a.m.-12:30 p.m.

The Lorax

Homeschool Class + Guided Tour: “UNLESS someone like you cares a whole awful lot, nothing is going to get better. It’s not!” Discover this powerful message of natural resource conservation found in a favorite children’s book written by Dr. Seuss. In this program, students will have the opportunity to visit the Street of the Lifted Lorax and become a part of the story. This integrative program connects the story of the Lorax to an endangered Texas native, the Attwater’s prairie chicken, for which Fossil Rim has an onsite breeding program. The experience is guaranteed to get students thinking about the environment, sustainability, stewardship and their role in it all. $23 per person. For questions, email homeschool@fossilrim.org. Please reserve at least three days in advance at (254) 897-2960.

Date: February 12, 2019 10 a.m.-3 p.m.

Family Hike + Tour

Join us for a refreshing 45-minute hike on one of our nature trails, as we explore the natural world that is so often overlooked by visitors to Fossil Rim. Of course, since a visit to Fossil Rim would not be complete without seeing the animals, the program will conclude with a two-hour guided tour of the park. To register, call (254) 897-2960. $35 per person.

Date: February 16, 2019, 9 a.m.-12 p.m.

Por El Amor De Lobos

Join us for this event, which translates to “for the love of wolves”. You’ll start your evening at the Overlook and go on a tour to see the wolves of Fossil Rim (American red, Mexican, maned). Once you arrive, one of our animal care specialists will discuss Fossil Rim’s efforts to save these species. After your visit to the Intensive Management Area, you’ll return to the Overlook for a dinner of steak, potatoes, vegetables, dessert and Fossil Rim wine within our glass-walled café perched above our Main Pasture. $95 per person, adults only. Reserve at (254) 897-2960.

Date: February 16, 2019, 5-8 p.m.

Wolves

Homeschool Class + Behind-the-Scenes Tour: The relationship between man and wolf has been a rocky one, and you will learn how that interaction has evolved over the years. Fossil Rim has Mexican gray wolves, American red wolves and maned wolves. Discover the habits and history of these amazing animals and enjoy the unique opportunity of viewing our resident wolves – possibly all species! This event is for homeschoolers ages seven and up. $28 per person. For questions, email homeschool@fossilrim.org. Please reserve at least three days in advance at (254) 897-2960.

Date: February 25, 2019, 10 a.m.-3 p.m.

Master Composter Training Course

Join our Natural Resources staff for a Master Composter Training Course, which includes two weeknights and a full Saturday. For $35, participants receive three composting books, a composting thermometer, and lunch on day three. Two people may attend the class at a total of $55, but they will share one set of supplies. For more information, email cpyle@fossilrim.org. Reserve in advance at (254) 897-2960.

Date: February 28 & March 1, 2019, 6-9 p.m.; March 2, 2019, 9 a.m.-5 p.m.
