Thank you for planning a visit to Fossil Rim Wildlife Center. We appreciate your visit and want you to have a great experience. The majority of our guests come to drive through our phenomenal animal breeding facility. To do that you may just show up at the front gate, pay your admission, observe our animals, our scenery and enjoy your day. Along with your pass to enter the park you will receive an identification guide for the animals that tells you if they are endangered and some interesting facts about each species.

Want to treat the family to a day at Fossil Rim and you enjoy it too? Like the old commercial says, leave the driving to us. Fossil Rim has two family oriented Guided Tours; Family and Behind the Scenes to choose from. If your our guest staying at Foothills Safari camp or The Lodge, you can take the Morning Safari tour which goes into our Intesive Management Area.
Want something a little more? Then maybe our Adventure, Photo, Feeding or Private tours are what you're looking for. We also have Youth/Senior group tours available. Even if you bring your own "Bus Load", we can help with our Step-On tour.

Your journey begins at the Admissions Center where you can purchase feed for the animals and snacks for yourself. We offer a variety of candies, crackers, trail mix and drinks for your ride. We have disposable cameras, film, batteries and a small variety of souvenirs. You’ll also receive an animal ID brochure which will help you identify the animals you will see along the tour route. You can also purchase The Animal Guide book or CD, both were created right here by Fossil Rim’s Education Department. Approximately three hours (and nine and a half miles later), you have experienced many species of animals roaming the hillsides and grazing in the valleys; you've fed them, photographed them and given you and your family memories of a lifetime.

The Overlook
Halfway through the 9.5 mile Scenic Drive you will come to our Overlook area where you will find our Nature Store, Café, Children’s Animal Center and hiking trails. Spend some time here to stretch your legs and be sure to take in the stunning view from the Café deck. Stop a minute after lunch and say “Hello” to our Blue and Gold Macaws just outside the Café entrance.
Picnic tables located near the Children's Animal Center are available for a family picnic if you've brought your meal, or our Overlook Café has a nice selection of salads, sandwiches, snacks and drinks. |

Just like the price you paid at admissions, your purchases in our Nature Store will help with the care and feeding of all the animals at Fossil Rim throughout the entire year. You will find a majority of our merchandise online by clicking on eStore in the menu bar at the top of the page. The Nature Store is filled with books & educational materials, fascinating gifts, fine art and unusual handcrafts, many of which represent the work of Texas artisans.

Temporarily Closed Due To Renovation
Normally, we would love for you to stop by our Children’s Animal Center, but due to our renovation project, the animals are "on vacation". They're spending the summer in some of our pastures that are not accessible from the Scenic Drive. We appologize for this inconvenience, and will make a big announcement when the Children's Animal Center will reopen.
Once we reopen, you can meet Vinnie, our Boer/Nubian goat. He is known for giving hugs to our guests. You may even be lucky enough to hear Pearl one of our bare eyed cockatoo say “hello”. You’ll also see Ralph and Venus our African spurred tortoises. We also have African Pygmy goats, Texas Tortoises, Eclectus parrot, Mollucan Cockatoo and of course, Einstein, one of Fossil Rim Wildlife Center’s male Emus. Each of the animals has their own special personalities. We ask that you don’t feed them as they are all on special diets, but you can brush the goat’s coats, which they all really like.
