Fossil Rim Wildlife Center wants you to explore and discover endangered species via our Scenic Drive, our many Guided Tours, staying here in one of our Bunkhouses, Safari Tents or The Lodge, enjoying the animals at the Children's Animal Center and the Glen Rose/Somervell County area. If that's not possible, this web site is here for you to do the same, virtually.

Scenic Drive

Your journey begins at the Admissions Center where you can purchase feed for the animals and snacks for yourself. We offer a variety of candies, crackers, trail mix and drinks for your ride. We have disposable cameras, film, batteries and a small variety of souvenirs. You’ll also receive an animal ID brochure which will help you identify the animals you will see along the tour route. You can also purchase The Animal Guide book or CD, both were created right here by Fossil Rim’s Education Department. Approximately three hours (and nine and a half miles later), you have experienced many species of animals roaming the hillsides and grazing in the valleys; you've fed them, photographed them and given you and your family memories of a lifetime.

Popular Tours

Want to treat the family to a day at Fossil Rim and you enjoy it too? Like the old commercial says, leave the driving to us. Fossil Rim has several family oriented Guided Tours; Family, Behind the Scenes, Feeding or Morning Safari tours are yours to choose from.

Want something a little more? Then maybe our Adventure, Photo or Private tours are what you're looking for. We also have Youth/Senior group tours available. Even if you bring your own "Bus Load", we can help with our Step-On tour.

Lodging

The Lodge

Not really a camper, or looking for something romantic? Then the Lodge will be to your liking. The Lodge was the original “ranch house” for the property and, with a few modifications, now serves as a Bed and Breakfast. With its cathedral style living room, massive stone fireplace and walls of glass that open onto a stone veranda overlooking a popular wildlife feeding area, the Lodge is a first class place to stay.

Foothills Safari Camp

Not ready for rustic, but still looking for something fun to do with the kiddos? Then check out our Foothills Safari "tents". They are made to look like safari tents in Africa. Each tent cabin is fitted with two twin beds, fresh linens, a private bath, ceiling fans and central heat and air.

Wolf Ridge Nature Bunkhouses

Want to spend the night at Fossil Rim? Want to "rough it" and don't own a tent? We offer rustic cabins with bunk beds. No heat or air conditioning, but a tent wouldn't have that either now would it?

Not ready to "rough it" quite that much? We also have rustic cabins with bunk beds AND heat and A/C. All bunkhouses have restrooms and showers nearby.

NOTE: Bunkhouses are not available for rent during peak camp season, call to check on availability.

Children's Animal Center

When you visit our Children’s Animal Center you can meet Vinnie, our Boer/Nubian goat, known for giving hugs to our guests. If you're lucky, you may hear Pearl (one of our bare eyed cockatoos) say “hello”. We have two African spurred tortoises, Ralph and Venus. You will also find African Pygmy goats, Texas Tortoises, Eclectus parrot, Mollucan Cockatoo and of course, Einstein, Fossil Rim Wildlife Center’s only male Emu.

Local Offerings

Glen Rose

Glen Rose, voted America's Dream Town in 2004 and the Dinosaur Capitol of Texas, was originally settled in the mid-1800's. While in the area there are plenty of events and attraction to attend after your visit here. The Expo Center has events nearly every weekend. On the third Saturday of the month, the down town merchants sponsor a "Ladies Night Out" with entertainment and specials in almost every shop. Dinosaur Valley State Park is just a mile or two northwest of town.

Somervell County

As the second smallest county in Texas, Somervell county has plenty to offer. Beautiful scenery, rolling hills, breathtaking views, winding drives and historic parks.
